TattooNOW West coast trip Part 1
Last week I boarded a plane in Boston with OTM bossman Gabe and resident artist Matt Driscoll. We were headed west to the Off the Map Northwest shop in Grants Pass, OR. After landing in Portland, which was in the middle of an unprecedented snow storm, we met up with No Hope No Fear’s owner/artist James Kern and fellow shop artist Bacon at a local pub, we had a few tasty beverages and headed off to James’ place to take a peek at his painting studio and his latest work. James is as meticulous with his paintings as he is with his incredible tattoos.
We said goodbye to James and hit the hotel, we were headed to the 1Moto show the next day and needed some rest. At the show, Gabe, Matt and I met up up with tattooer and painter Jeff Johnson who was displaying some rad paintings and we also had a nice chat with tattoo machine builder, tattooer, motorcycle enthusiast, Seth Ciferri. The show was packed with beautiful custom bikes and made me hope spring would hurry up and get here so I could hit the road.
Next stop, No Hope No Fear to see James in action. We saw first hand at No Hope No Fear what goes into a James Kern tattoo. He worked on this amazing “God particle” piece.
We bid farewell to James and Bacon and hit up the barbecue joint across the street and then headed out into the snowy night towards the nearest barcade.I played some of my favorite classics and got my ass soundly kicked at Galaga by Matt. After a few hours of pinball it was time to drive to the airport to pick up Guy Aitchison and begin our treacherous midnight drive south to Off the Map Northwest in Grants Pass to shoot and broadcast a 3 day webinar marathon with Guy Aitchison and Jeff Gogue.
